Original Unfolded Linen-Backed French Advertising Poster Ca. 1920-1930. Bold and colorful French advertising poster promoting an anise-flavored Pastis aperitif liquor. Pastis was created in response to the banning of absinth in France in 1915. The poster features the art of a flapper in flowing gown enjoying the drink and a panoramic vista. The woman depicted is French dancer, singer and actress Gaby Deslys, who was extremely popular throughout the world in the 1910s. Note that the bottle label is a repeat of the poster image essentially creating a poster within a poster.
